I think she had been crying, leastways that's how it seemed.
Still I had to float on by an' be as distant as her dreams.
I knew that she was lonely, although she didn't make it plain.
Still I had to want her only, go and break her heart again.

She asks me what I'm thinking, I can't explain,

Still I had to take a chance, leave her thinking I had a clue.

Still I had to keep on flirting, go and steal her heart away.
