An enemy can abuse and violate us but we sell ourselves short when we see him coming and neither challenge
nor avoid him.
We are our own worst enemy when we accept excuses promises explanations
and lies, the phoney spurious and pseudo, but never get to the bottom of what's really going on.
We diminish ourselves when we are too inhibited and fearful to ask
why things don't make sense or add up until it seems too late to mention it.
We can snatch at easy answers, simple remedies to complex arguments,
quick fixes, miracles and mysteries, anything but tell him he's out of
order, and risk the consequences.
Experience of qualified satisfaction of our fundamental needs is
morbid and perilous;
but worse is to grin and bear it and accept that nothing can be done about it.
