For ease of comparison with Haes and Harding (1997), records are shown as: pre-1970, 1970-1989 and as 1990 onwards. The eventual aim is to update all maps as completely as possible with records for 2001 onwards, to show the status of Sussex orthopteroids in the first decade of the new millennium.

The best site in Britain for this nationally rare insect is a National Nature Reserve in East Sussex, where the Wart-biter has been specially studied and monitored. Elsewhere in East Sussex, there are smaller more elusive colonies, some of which may be extinct; but the Wart-biter can be surprisingly difficult to find, even in well-known localities. It is listed as Vulnerable and is protected under Schedule 5 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act. The Wart-biter is a subject of the Species Recovery Programme.
