Records are plotted according to 10 km grid squares shown on Ordnance Survey maps. Maps have been compiled from the published literature and from records received from the National Recording Scheme, from the Sussex Wildlife Trust and from my own records. Any records received via this website will be sent to the National Recording Scheme and to the Sussex Wildlife Trust. The Trust makes records available to local authorities in the administrative counties of East Sussex and West

Sussex, to guide decision making concerning proposed changes in land use. Historically, Sussex was a single county until 1974. For biological recording purposes, the Watsonian vice-counties of East Sussex and West Sussex are used. The boundary between the two vice-counties differs from that between the two present administrative counties.
There is no need for those diligent recorders who regularly submit data to the National Recording Scheme to email their records to this site (but you can if you like). If, like me, however, you never seem to be able to get round to filling in your record cards and transmitting them by classic mail but you regularly surf the web, then simply email your records to me. If you live somewhere else, then build your own website! I used Freeway 1.02 (for Apple Macintosh) which came free with a magazine.
The aim of this site is to facilitate updating the status of Sussex Orthoptera in the first decade of the new millennium, in these exciting times of change. If you think you can update a dot on the map, send me your record! Please supply your name, date of record, locality and (if possible) grid reference.
