William's Lunar Tree Calendar

The Earth in Astrology: the new Ruler of Taurus?

I want to make public my realisation that our own planet is just as important in astrology as the other heavenly bodies.

I was wondering what a birthchart cast for someone born on Mars might look like, and then realised that they would have the lovely blue-green Earth in the skies. So, where is it on the charts of those of us born here?

The way the other planets’ positions are calculated is ideally to project a line from the person through the centre of the planet and on to the celestial sphere. The ecliptic longitude of that point on the sphere gives the position in the zodiac. For the Earth, that always ends up being the bottom of the chart, 90° from the Ascendant.

I then started thinking about its qualities, and realised that home, roots, mother, earthiness were very Taurean. My proposal is that Earth be the ruling planet of Taurus, for up to now Taurus hasn’t had one. Venus is associated with the Earth, and can continue to be, but it rules Libra.

Please tell what you think about this (william@pavilion.co.uk).

Do note that I am currently unable to offer to do birthcharts, but I hope to be able to do so again, and will let you know in these pages if so.
